Using a CUPS printer on Windows
This is really quite simple.
Windows 7
Please follow the steps below to install the printer.
- First you need to add "LPR Port Monitor", this will allow a screen to show up later in the procedure.
Go to "Control Panel->Programs->Programs and Features"
- Click on "Turn Windows freatures on or off"
- Expand the "Print and Document Services" then click "LPR Port Monitor".
- Click Start, click Control Panel and double click Devices and Printers.
- Click Add a Printer.
- Select "Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer". It will try to find a print server then fail, this will take some time. If you did't add the "LPD Port Monitor" the next option will not show up. (You may be able to just continue to the next step and not wait for the search to timeout.)
- Click on "The printer that I want isn't listed."
Click on "Select a shared printer by name" then enter "http://[ip-address]:631/printers/[printer-name]" minus the quotes.
- Click "Next".
- Choose the correct driver in the driver list.
Windows XP
First click on "Start->Printers and Faxes".
- This will pop up "Printers and Faxes" menu.
- Then click on "Add a printer" link which will pop up the "Add Printer Wizard".
- Click on "Next" then "Add network printer, or a printer attached to another computer".
- Click on "Connect to a printer on the Internet or on a home or office network"
In the "URL:" text area type "http://[ip-address]:631/printers/[printer-name]" minus the quotes.
If Windows finds your printer it will pop up a screen to let you choose your printer make and model. After choosing this you are done.
